Cancelling, and what comes back to you
What is kept after you cancel depends on notice alone: a whole deposit returns with a day to spare, half inside the last day, none once she has set out.
Sightseeing days change shape, and so do evenings. When a booking has to be called off, the question is how much of any deposit is kept, and the answer depends on one thing only: how much notice you give. You never owe the house damages for cancelling.
With a deposit
- With over twenty-four hours still to run before the start: the house keeps nothing and repays the deposit.
- Inside the final twenty-four hours, while she has yet to set out: half the deposit is kept as fee already earned, half comes back.
- After she has set off towards you: every euro of the deposit counts as fee already earned and stays kept.
If another guest takes the hour you released, the deposit is returned in full. If you can show the house lost less than the share it kept, only that smaller amount is kept.
Without a deposit
When a returning guest books an hour or two for later the same day at a city address, no deposit is asked for. Cancelled before she leaves, it costs nothing. Cancelled after she has set out, it costs the part of the fee that her journey represents, and nothing more.
Moving instead of cancelling
